It's hard to believe that we are already in June! Time certainly goes by quickly. The students are really starting to look like grade 3's.
Here are some updates for you:
Math:
We have been learning about probability and today started making our own probability games. Last week we visited Mrs. Kelterborn's classroom and played their games. The students know about fair and unfair games and also about events that are likely, unlikely, impossible and certain. We also continue to practice our math facts and apply our math strategies during problem solving activities. The students visit the computer lab a couple of times a week to complete their Dreambox lessons. Dreambox will be available to your child throughout the summer.
Language:
In writing the children completed some short opinion writing pieces. We worked hard to include a topic sentence, 3-4 arguments and a closing sentence. Our focus is always on good punctuation and accurate spelling of word wall words.
Social Studies:
We wrapped up our social studies about countries around the world with a showcase of various places that we had studied throughout the term. Each group presented their country with facts, music, dance and items that represented their country. We shared our learning with the grade 1 and 2 classes.
The trip to the Groundwater Festival was a great success. The students had a lot of fun while learning at the various stations. Thanks so much to those parents who were able to accompany us. This is definitely a trip that requires a lot of parent support.
The next few days will be busy at school. We have a primary play day coming, a magic show, kites, a play to attend by the grade 4's, the Humane Society will visit us... and there is likely more. Stay tuned to your child's planner and this blog.
Thanks,
Mrs. Moynihan
