We have had a very busy first three weeks back.
The students are excited about Literacy Day tomorrow and the Book Fair in the Library. If you are able to join us from 8:45-10:15 that would be terrific. Students can purchase books anytime tomorrow. They will also be given a coupon from the Bookshelf in downtown Guelph that is good until Sunday.
Here are some recent updates:
Math
Our Minds-on-Math groups are working very well. The students are making great progress working on specific goals with their group. We have also wrapped up our unit on Geometry (2D and 3D) shapes that we started at the beginning of the month now have just started a unit on Measurement. We made some excellent skeletons of shapes which I will post later this week.
Language
In reading we are working on a couple of new strategies: Check for Understanding and Back up and Re-read. When you are reading with your child at home you can stop at different points in the story for a check in-- "Do you know what's happening? Does what you have read so far make sense?" Students are encouraged to Back up and Re-read if their comprehension has broken down somewhere. In writing many students are experimenting with stories and learning how to write dialogue.
Social Studies
We have begun to learn about the world. We are going to be connecting with a class in Missouri and another class in Australia to explore what it's like to live in another area of the world.
We look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow.
Thanks,
Mrs. Moynihan
